Description
Margaret Gray was appointed by the Northern Ireland Prison Service in 1973 as the first full-time teacher for the Compounds of the Maze and Long Kesh Prison. She worked as a Senior Teacher teaching Basic Education and English firstly in the Compounds and then in the H Blocks of the Maze and Long Kesh Prison. In the 1990s she was Senior Teacher in Maghaberry Prison where she started cookery classes for both men and women prisoners. From the mid-1970s Margaret was responsible for liaising between the prison education department and The Open University for example in the organisation of graduations and all set books needed by Open University ...students in the prisons. She did this role until her retirement in 1995.
