Description
The way in which a teacher frames questions and the way he uses them (including the frequency with which he uses them) influence the learning/teaching process and can be said in part to determine t...he style of learning. In this programme, the assumptions and implicit principles which underlie differing styles of teaching are examined by Geoffrey Esland, Douglas Barnes and Harold Rosen in the light of observations on language and the way in which it is used in the classroom. In the course of the examinations, a number of polemical and important points are made about what have come to be known as 'open' and 'closed' styles of teaching.
