The value of the government grant is failing to keep up with inflation and over the next two years the OU faces a budget deficit of nearly £10.5 million. In practical terms this means that the OU is trying to maintain the number and quality of its courses with less money and fewer staff. But on a brighter note, there have been developments: new courses have been offered and new ways of publishing course material have been introduced. Collaborative schemes with other universities in the UK are now well established and there is even talk of developing a course with colleagues from the EEC. |
