Description
The presenter of the programme is of the opinion that the best way to study cognitive processes is through their manifestation in normal procedures, such as reading, rather than by the use of speci...ally designed tests whose conclusions cannot be generalised. The programme describes research carried out at Brunei University where various styles of (silent) reading are defined and various reading strategies classified. The presenter mentions at the end of the programme that the Brunei workers have been able to help change habitual styles of reading that were inefficient for their purpose and that this indicates that cognitive styles, at least in the field of reading, are not permanent characteristics of the individual.
