The programme explores some of the ways in which children's books not only reflect but also mould attitudes, focusing on black/white relationships. Children's views provide compelling evidence abou...t the self - image of the black child; and that books cannot be considered neutral. Beryl Gilroy, a black headmistress of an Infant School, and children's author, describes her own. attempts to write stories which are more appropriate for a multi-cultural society. We also hear from Rosemary Stones if the Children's Rights Workshop, who discusses some of the pitfalls in writing bias - free material. The aim of this programme is to provoke thought and discussion.
