Footage description: Allan Krass introduces the programme. He briefly reviews the material covered in programme 4. Krass uses the Schrodinger equation to extract information on energy and momentum of particles. His approach is essentially mathematical. He demonstrates that the time dependent Schrodinger equation reduces to its time-independent equivalent if the total energy of a system is constant. Russ Stannard examines the behaviour of solutions of Schrodinger's equation, introducing the concept of parity. Several animations and graphic aids are used. A computer animation illustrates general features of eigenfunctions.
