Footage description: | Field expounds his case for increased social security to help eradicate two kinds of poverty. The Traylen family are an example of poverty caused by unemployment. They describe the psychological effects. Field outlines the benefits available. The Traylens describe their feelings and experiences with the DHSS. Other benefits, in terms of rebates and subsidies, are also available. These are also related to the Traylens' own experiences. Field examines the numbers of people not claiming their benefits. Poverty caused by low income is looked at by Field. Toussaint relates her life and experiences with the DHSS. Ring and Alcock, advice centre workers, explain some of the problems which await people applying for benefits. Toussaint relates how she was helped through her difficulties. Shots of Ring helping Toussaint fill in a form. Alcock discusses the red tape. Using Toussaint's own example, Field outlines the 'poverty trap' which militates against increasing one's income. He concludes on the need for increasing public expenditure. Credits. |
