Footage description: | Dr. Dinah Barsham introduces the programme and gives examples of perfect and imperfect cadences. She plays through the first bars of "The Ash Grove", pointing out the cadences. Dr. Barsham then explains how chords could be added to these cadences. She does this for the first perfect cadence. Dr. Barsham now writes the chords for the imperfect cadence and for the 2nd perfect cadence in the tune. Dr. Barsham alters the chords, which were in root position, so that they are first inversions. Bernard Thomas plays "Aus Meines Herzens Grunde" to demonstrate the need for phasing Ross Winters demonstrates the technique of slurring. He plays "Sommeil". Thomas plays "Ye Banks and Braes" on descant recorder and Winters plays the tune on the treble. Winter plays "Now is the Month of Maying" Credits. |
