The sisters have hopes for the future and plans to leave the provincial town where they ...live but, like so many of Chekhov's characters, they are not able to alter their lives and are forced to accept the inevitability of disappointment. Masha is played by Katharine Schofield, Olga by Vivien Heilbron, Irena by Tessa Wyatt. Jeremy Kemp plays Vershinin. Mark Dignam is the Doctor and George Little, Koolygin. Toozenbach is played by Ben Kingsley.
