Description
This programme examines the major problems of Chicago as they impinge on the educational system of the city. The programme includes film of Metro High School (the Chicago Public High School for Met...ropolitan Studies): a serious attempt to come to terms with, and overcome, the major shortcomings of the public and parochial school systems in Chicago.

Raynor points out the wide range of options and variety of teachers, including volunteers. Scenes from an Esperanto lesson. A white student comments on the responsibility the school gives him. Shots of black student classes taking place at the Centre for Inner City Students. A black teacher describes how community resources are utilised. More shots of central Chicago. Raynor points out the growth of 'alternative' schools as private and short lived experiments. Metro's special problems are described by a black teacher.
