Footage description: A home economics lesson at The Grange School, Aylesbury. Teacher and group read and comment on advertising pamphlets for cookers. Close up of display of pamphlets. John Chapman, voice over commentator throughout, points out how critical guidance is given. Children from Latham Junior Mixed School, Newham, entering Passmore Edwards Museum, Newham. A museum officer talks to a group round a table which flint axes etc. are displayed. Another shot shows a group round a relief model showing soil types. Fade to diorama with another staff member discussing the stone age. Children work on a questionnaire. Back in the classroom, they help cast a rough bronze dagger. Lab- scenes show stones being weighed and recorded. A group break up large rocks by hammering. Another scene shows them working on a soil section similar to the museum display. At the Aylesbury school, a class of 13 & 14 year olds work on a project concerning the proposal to build the third London airport at Cublington. Teacher sends a group to the Resource Bank, to find material. Deputy head (Resources) Mr. Yeo in the Resource Bank guides them to the newscuttings maps and the Optical Co-incidence Co-ordinate index (OCCI) which indexes material in all formats. He gives them folders for the material they have found and they return to the class. Teacher gives instructions. Group discussion. Clearing up scenes. Final sequence show children in the same school in a history lesson, working on copies of original documents. Some close ups of items relating to turnpike roads.
