Description
In the 16th century the niversity of Toulouse trained lawyers for the local Parlement, the Royal Courts of Justice, while the merchants of Toulouse created one of the wealthiest cities in France tr...ading in just one commodity - woad. both merchants and lawyers used architecture as a means to display their wealth and intellectual standing. Anne Laurence uses the surviving buildings to trace this extraordinary period od civic prosperity and power before the outbreak of the Religious Wars.
