This programme is based upon a day's work in an area social services office in Lambeth. It illustrates the workings of the reception area, shows interviews between clients and social workers. The c...lients represent both reception and long term cases. The programme raises important questions about the effectiveness of social work in tackling clients' individual problems that are based in structural poverty. It leads the student to consider the relationship of caring agencies of the state and clients in a situation of scarce resource allocation.
