Description
In this programme the concerns and feelings of young Punjabis in Britain are explored. The film interweaves a number of themes: the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre in Amritsar in 1919 when British troops... fired on an un-armed crowd killing 384; the Southall riot of April 23rd 1979 precipitated by an 'election meeting' of the National Front, and during which the New Zealand teacher Blair Peach was killed; a play written and performed in South London by a group of young Punjabis in which they relate these two events; developments in Punjabi language teaching and cultural (e.g. dance) activities within the community as exemplified by those which exist at Sidney-Stringer School and Community College, Coventry.
