Description
The themes to do with pleasure (elaborated in Unit 17 Pleasure) include the audience's identification with a hero-figure, the deployment of communal values, the pleasure of narrative, and of the lo...ok of the camera. Gangsters was chosen because of its use of narrative disruptions to parody the generic conventions of the crime series and so enables us also to question cultural pleasures. Production details and a full synopsis of the twelve-part serial are presented in the broadcast notes.
