In recent years, the grey seal population on the Isle of May has increased dramatically. this increase throught the British Isles. Grey seals form a convenient group for studying population dynamic...s. In the past human intervention has beena critical factor but more recently the natural forces within their living and breeding environment have come into play. This programme studies the Isle of May population in detail and follows the work of the Sea mammal Research unit at Cambridge, the government supported group in charge of grey seal studies. In particular, they document the age structure of the population; critical knowledge for good management. the programme was filmed on location on the isle of May and in the Orkneys. it includes beautiful footage of the bulls and the cows with their pups. Also, the programme depicts the scientists at work tagging and marking the pups. The programme starts with a short description of the life scale of the grey seal and concludes with a summary of the various measuring techniques.
