Description
Many of the world's most important oil fields are found in ancient carbonate formations. Although areas with shallow, warm, tropical waters, where carbonate producing organisms thrive, are far less... extensive than they were at times in the geological past, we can distinguish distinctly different modern environments. The characteristic carbonate environments produced in ramp settings are illustrated with film from the Persian Gulf, and shelf and platform settings with film from the Bahamas.
