Description
Paleomagnetism tells us a lot about how the Earth's magnetic field has behaved in the past, and some of these results are discussed in Unit 23. Now for something completely different. As far as w...e know, the only viable theory for the origin of the magnetic field is motions in the earth's core. But is such a mechanism feasible? Obviously, we can't find out what the motions in the earth's core are like, but we think that the actions in the earth's core are something like a dynamo, and what we can do is build a model of this.
