To introduce the Religious Studies courses as grounded in social scientific and historical analysis. There is a lot of sociology in all the Religious Studies courses. We’re not interested in reli...gious truth – we explore how religious ideas and practices impact the world around us and how the world impacts upon what people believe and practice. ‘Take a picture of religion’ activity in A227 – there is a lot of diversity in our cities – but also in the countryside. To face global challenges today – in domestic situations, e.g. if you work in a school, with a local government or in any service-oriented profession – or even if you just read the newspaper – you’re going to be coming in contact with people who’s understanding of the world and daily practices might be radically different than your own. In Religious Studies we want to help people think intelligently and critically about all sorts of human belief – and non-belief.
