Description
It is estimated that half of the school-aged children in the world will not be able to read or write by the time they complete primary education. Teachers are the single most important factor regar...ding this and effective teachers are in short supply. There are many unqualified teachers and qualified teachers often feel poorly prepared. Since the start of the twenty-first century, the Open University has been working in collaboration with teachers, teacher-educators, researchers and government partners in schools, serving urban slums and remote rural villages around the world. Through research, collaboration and innovation, we have developed award-winning, large-scale teacher development programmes that are changing learning and lives in schools across South Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa. In this session, we meet three leaders from International Teacher Education for Development (ITED) projects, who share first-hand experiences and insights from working in some of the most challenging contexts to improve learning for all.
