He was the son of prominent methodist Jabez Bunting about whom he wrote a biography titled 'The life of Jabez Bunting: with notices of contemporary persons and events'. He was the father of Sarah Amos who was the superintendent of the Working Women's College in London and Percy William Bunting who was editor of the 'Contemporary Review' magazine which was published from 1866 to 2013.
