Description
Charles Allston Collins, the brother of author Wilkie Collins, was a British artist and illustrator. Although not an official member his work is most closely associated with the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood. He later embarked on a writing career his most successful work was 'The Eye Witness' published in 1860. Collins married Charles Dicken's daughter Kate. He died aged 45 from cancer in 1873.

Description: Charles Allston Collins writes to propose publication of several of his 'eye-witness' articles which have appeared in Charles Dicken's 'All the Year Round' magazine. He suggests publishing them in a single volume with the possible title 'The Eye-Witness – his evidence on all sorts of subjects from a Handel Festival to a Friendly Lead, and from an Election enquiry to a Cattle show'

Letter note: This letter has a related note written by the Reverend Frederick William Low who compiled the volumes in c.1913: "Charles Allston Collins, second son of William Collins R.A., & brother of the novelist, Wilkie Collins, was born in 1828. In 1860 he married the younger daughter of Charles Dickens. In addition to the 'Eye Witness' essays referred to in the subjoined letter, he wrote two novels, and other works. He died in 1873."
