Footage description: David Crecraft shows the 741 operational amplifier integrated circuit life size and then under the microscope. Using a large diagram he discusses the circuit and its layout. Gaby Smol demonstrates the importance of layout using three configurations of an amplifier circuit. The effects of the proximity of input and output wires which can cause instability and hum and noise pickup by unscreened input wires are shown using an oscilloscope display and an audio oscillator. David Crecraft assists Dennis Moss in measuring the frequency response of the open loop pre-amplifier circuit built in the home experiment. Results are plotted on a graph. Finally David Crecraft uses automatic frequency plotting equipment to control the characteristics of a simple RC circuit and the preamplifier circuit, both for open and closed loop responses.
