Bang Goes the Theory is back, with the first of eight episodes bringing you the science behind the headlines, and looking at the issues that have a real impact on all our lives. The team investigat...e the science that makes sense of the stories that affect us all. This first episode investigates plastics. Without plastic, the modern world simply wouldn't work. It wraps our food, covers electric cables and keeps us warm. And it's found in places you'd never expect. Maggie Philbin helps one family find out the truth about their exposure to plastic chemicals. Liz discovers how plastic waste could get into our food chain. Jem explores the latest in recycling, and tries a new use for old plastic. And we meet a woman whose arm was fixed with the help of plastic glue.
