Footage description: Film sequence shot at Great Yarmouth Adult Training Centre. In interview and in voiceover the manager, Tony Burroughes, describes the purpose of the centre and its training aims and methods. He describes the work attitudes of the mentally handicapped trainees, setting these against their chances of finding employment. He also gives details of how trainees can benefit from attending the centre. Burroughes introduces a group of five trainees about to start work in an enclave group at a local factory, Rosalind Foods. He gives the background of each of the five, together with a brief assessment of their working abilities. Sequence showing the first day at Rosalind Foods for the aforementioned enclave group. In voice-over supervisor Michael Long explain the position of the firm towards the mentally handicapped trainees. He describes generally the performance of trainees at work. Interview with Disablement Resettlement Officer Tony Woodrow, who describes his function in general, and in this case in particular. Pete Lowman, Production Director, at Rosalin Foods, explains in interview why he employs handicapped people. He describes in voiceover the particular case histories of several employees, who are seen at work. Lowman explains the advantages handicapped employees can offer to firms, largely because of their excellent work habits. Further film of people at work. Lowman introduces individuals, some of whom add their own comments about work. Lowman explains the necessity for getting all supervisory staff behind the scheme to ensure its success. There follows more case histories, with several physically and mentally handicapped people giving their own opinions of their work. Lowman also lists the benefits work can provide for handicapped people. In interview and in voice over Woodrow describes the unemployment problems among older and handicapped people in Great Yarmouth. Finally, Lowman comments on the misguided reluctance of employers to take handicapped people. Closing shots of workers at Rosalind Foods.
