Description
The compilation videotape is a three - hour tape showing edited extracts from the eight television programmes that accompany 'Environment' (U2O6) In compiling this video, we have attempted to retai...n the essential themes of the programmes and as much relevant substantive material as was feasible, whilst ensuring the preservation of continuity as far as possible. Topical material of this nature can date quickly, particularly in areas where the changing relationship between scientific enquiry and political response will inevitably produce many policy developments during the 1990s (as in the case of global warming for example). For this reason, the programme segments seek to develop both- broader and longer term perspectives. Whilst they certainly probe contemporary issues, they attempt to avoid reference to purely 'current' events. They aim also to look behind environmental issues to the principal actors involved, critically to examine policy objectives both in terms of who is involved in making policies and who is most affected by them. Their position is both questioning and explanatory, yet forward-looking. There i& an activity booklet which links to the video and asks key questions which will help the viewer actively watch the programme extracts.
