this programme shows how fluorescence and phosphorescence spectra and lifetimes are measured instrumentally. The instrument used as the main demonstration vehicle is the new Perkin Elmer LS5 spectr...ofluorimeter, and the material whose spectra and lifetimes are measured is napthalene. The mechanical principle as used in the MPF 44 generation instruments is also demonstrated. The LS5 can't of course measure fluorescence lifetimes but the procedure is shown using a continuous tunable dye laser at the Royal Institution.
