Description
This film shows some of the changes that electronics is making to one area of society that affects us all - money transfer. For the first time, cameras were allowed into the British Banks Central A...utomated Clearing Services (BACS) and the clearing house of a major UK bank. The basic principles behind cash dispensers are used as a valuable introduction to the increased facilities that microprocessors can give to machinery. The film concludes with three short sequences of new technology in stores: bar-code readers, automated credit-card clearing, and the fully electronic funds transfer terminal - where no cash or paperwork is required. The music soundtrack includes original compositions performed by the Manchester Saxophone Quartet. Point of sale terminals are discussed in block 2 of the T101 texts. The teaching role of this film is to present students with a production designed to affect their attitudes to such machinery. As such it is designed to contrast in approach with TV06 of this course. Radio 05 continue s the substantive discussion of pros and cons of point of sale terminals.
