Why were expert opinions and arguments so roundly rejected during the referendum? Why is it so hard to get a firm answer on the basic questions, such as whether Brexit will make us better off, or s...trengthen our sovereignty? How did forecasters who thought they were giving objective assessments get branded as scaremongers, elitists, and even plotting saboteurs? This session will ask what has happened to trust in experts. Is challenging experts healthy or hazardous for democracy? Can you believe everything you read (on the side of a bus)?
