Meet the Open Justice team

The Open Justice team manage the Open Justice Centre and activities. You can find out more about the team members below.

Hugh McFaul, Open Justice Centre Director and Senior Lecturer in Law

Hugh is a lecturer in law and a non-practising barrister. He is responsible for the operation and supervision of the Open Justice Public Understanding of Law activities. Hugh is currently chair of W360 Justice in action.

Francine Ryan

Francine Ryan, Open Justice Centre Director and Senior Lecturer in Law

Francine originally qualified as a solicitor and specialised in complex litigation claims. She was involved in pro bono work supervising trainee solicitors at a local law clinic. Francine is responsible for managing the Law Clinic. Her research interests focus on legal education in particular online learning and the impact technology is having on the legal profession.

Jon-Paul Knight

Jon-Paul Knight, Open Justice Centre Manager

Jon-Paul is the manager of the Open Justice Centre and most recently worked as a Qualification Manager in Law and Business. He is responsible for coordinating the work of Open Justice, and supports the work of the Law Clinic and the Public Understanding of Law activities.

Liz Hardie

Liz Hardie, Lecturer in Law and Law Teaching Director

Liz is a lecturer and Teaching Director of the Law School. She also tutors on W360. Liz originally qualified as a solicitor and specialised in family and employment claims. She now works for the Open University and is particularly interested in online learning and reflective practice. As a member of the Open Justice team Liz is one of the supervising solicitors in the law clinic and leads the Open Justice policy clinic.

Keren Lloyd Bright

Keren Lloyd Bright, Senior Lecturer in Law

Keren originally qualified as a solicitor and dealt with contentious and non-contentious business law in a media context (employment, defamation, company and commercial). Keren is responsible for the Open Justice prison projects. Her research interests are diverse and include legal ethics; cultural property; and prison-based public legal education.

Francine Ryan

Andrew Maxfield, Student Experience Manager and Tutor

Andrew is a Tutor for W360 and a Student Experience Manager in the Faculty of Business and Law.  He is a solicitor (non-practising) and he has worked or volunteered for a number of organisations in a legal, leadership or governance capacity.
