Supporting the next generation

"As the planetary protection officer at Airbus for the ExoMars and Sample Fetch rovers, I am really happy to have embarked on a part-time PhD at The OU.
It has given me the opportunity to work on new biological assay methodologies that could lead to improved planetary protection protocols in future space missions" .

Silvio Sinibaldi

AstrobiologyOU are committed to developing the next generation of researchers, and external partnerships could help us make this happen.

Although most of our PhD students are funded via UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) research councils and The Open University, we would welcome the opportunity to work with organisations that could fully or partially support a PhD student through their studies.

This provides an opportunity for bespoke research projects to be undertaken by a student linked to an issue of relevance and value to you and AstrobiologyOU.

Schemes available to support this include:

  • STFC Industrial CASE studentships

  • NERC CASE studentships

  • EPSRC Industrial CASE studentships

  • MRC iCASE studentships

  • BPSRC Industrial CASE studentships

  • Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs)

  • OU Partnerships

More information about any current PhD studentships can be found here.
