Rebecca Hey (1797-1867)

Rebecca Hey (née Roberts) was an English poet, artist and writer. Her first book 'The Moral of Flowers' published in 1833, is an encyclopedia of English flowers, containing her descriptive articles and poetry with illustrations by artist William Clark. Her second book 'Sylvan Musings or The Spirit of the Woods' is an encyclopedia of trees which features her writing, poetry and her own illustrations. 

 

"...the longest and perhaps the best of my attempts is

Janus’ daughter which I wrote some year or two ago" 

 

In one of the oldest letters in the collection, written in 1830, Rebecca Hey offers Rev Thomas Dale (1797-1870) some written pieces for 'The Iris'. 'The Iris' was a collection of religious works edited by him and published by Sampson Low, Hurst, Chance & Co in 1830.
