"Her Majesty has been pleased to accept it very

graciously"

Charles Beaumont Phipps sends a letter on behalf of Queen Victoria who has accepted a copy of 'The Charities of London' written by Sampson Low Jnr. and republished in 1862. Phipps writes from the Queen's residence Osborne House on the Isle of Wight on 13th April 1862. The Queen remained in mourning for many years following the death of Prince Albert on 14th December 1861. Phipp's letter is edged with a black border in recognition of the Prince's death just 4 months earlier.
