Horace Roscoe St John was a journalist, editor and author. He contributed to several periodicals and newspapers including 'The Times', 'The Standard' and 'The Athenaeum', mainly writing about politics and Eastern affairs. He was appointed political leader writer for 'The Daily Telegraph' in 1857. In later life he suffered financial difficulties and poor health. His wife Jane Elizabeth St John (née Roscoe) (1829-1906) was an author, known as Mrs Horace Roscoe St John.
