Description
Sherard Osborn was a British Royal Navy admiral and Arctic explorer. He was commander of several engagements during the Opium and Crimean Wars. He was appointed a Companion of the Order of the Bath for his services. He was involved in several Arctic expeditions during the 1840s and 1850s, the first to search for lost explorer Sir John Franklin and his crew. He published an account of one voyage titled 'Stray Leaves from an Arctic Journal' in 1852. He retained a lifelong interest in Arctic exploration.
