Description
Benjamin Humphrey Smart was an elocutionist and grammarian. He became an elocution teacher in London and a publisher. He published a Shakespeare anthology but most of his publications were educational works on the English language. In 1850 he was elected to the Athenaeum as "the author of several works on metaphysics and grammar" - one of his proposers was the scientist Michael Faraday.
