It is perhaps surprising that today with vast improvements in communication between countries that people can be starving in Africa while so called 'Butter Mountains' are building up in Europe. The...re is a need for more co-operation between countries to obtain better information on food production and demand. This programme investigates the problems of collecting accurate data on crop yields and shows how advanced technological methods such as the use of satellite imagery can help the situation, particularly in poor countries where illiteracy and a poor administration restrict the success of agricultural censuses.
