Dr. Eric Miller of the Tavistock Institute of Human Relations interviews Vicki Churcher, a social worker about to start work at a home for physically handicapped people. She expresses her expectati...ons and apprehensions about the job of care assistant. Film of Vicki on her first day at work, being shown around and introduced to the patients by a senior member of the staff. In interview afterwards Vicki describes her reactions to meeting patients who are severely handicapped. In voice over Vicki describes the hierarchical staff structure and the passivity of the patients in the face of orders from above.
