Footage description: | Dr. Dinah Barsham introduces the programme, and gives examples of perfect and imperfect cadences. She plays through the first bars of "The Ash Grove", pointing out the cadences Dr. Barsham then explains how chords could be added to these cadences. She does this for the first perfect cadence. Dr. Barsham now writes the chords for the imperfect cadence and for the 2nd perfect cadence in the tune. Dr. Barsham alters the chords which were in root position, so that they are first inversions. Ian Graham-Jones, plays "Sommeil" on the recorder and explains how some notes need to be slurred. He demonstrates this by playing the "Ash Grove". The section ends with the recorder group extemporising a piece using the pentatonic scale. |
