Footage description: In this programme course team members John Neville and Trevor Jordan act the respective parts of a school headmaster and a visiting school governor. The other governor is played by actor Time Meats. The programme opens with John Neville addressing the staff of the Alderman Hythe School in the role of headmaster. He prepares them for the visit of two school governors. The governors are seen arriving at the school, then in a meeting with the head. One is a governor of considerable experience, the other is new to the position. In the meeting the day's schedule is decided: a tour of the school, followed by visits to English classes. The head and the two governors are seen visiting the gym, where they question a teacher. There are brief visits to a science class and the school caretaker. The two governors are seen in discussion with the head of the school's English department. He describes how the department is organised and explains its use of different teaching methods by different teachers. The governors visit a classroom in which the children are organised into work study groups. The English teacher explains why he combines English teaching with that of the Humanities. He also describes his method of recording the progress of children. The governors visit the class of another English teacher, who employs more traditional teaching methods. She describes her method of recording pupils' progress. The governors are then seen examining children's work. The two governors are seen discussing their visit, then have another meeting with the headmaster. They discuss points arising from the visit and decide on the subject for another visit to the school.
