The why and how of referencing

Home Training and events The why and how of referencing

How do I attend?

Go to The why and how of referencing and select 'Join Room'. The room remains closed until the trainer has entered – this will usually be 15 minutes before the start time.

Referencing is about signaling when sources have played a role in your assignments and at the same time giving due credit to other writers. This rich 30 minute interactive session will introduce you to referencing and why it is important when writing your assignments. You will also learn about how to construct references and where to go for help and support.

Who's it for?

This session is suitable for those who are new to referencing and those who would like a refresher.

Piloting of a new referencing style

The Open University is transitioning to an externally provided, online resource for referencing called Cite Them Right.

From October 2019 the modules A111, A233, DD126, BXY132, BXY134, B870, B872, B873, Y031, Y032, Y033 will be piloting the Cite Them Right version of Harvard.

Please note that there will be no live sessions covering the use of Cite Them Right until September 2020. You can find a recording of a session which covers referencing using Cite Them Right via a link on the top right hand side of The why and how of referencing page.
