Completion of Qualification

Qualification offer

Scroll and Mortar

  • For the student to receive their qualification they need to ensure that they’ve passed all the required modules.
  • They will receive a letter informing them that they’re eligible for their qualification and would normally expect to receive confirmation that they've qualified for it within ten working days of the final module result being released.
  • The offer will provide details of the classification they’ve received.
  • Once this letter of confirmation has been received, a member of the education department will need to contact the Qualifications Centre by phone or email to accept the qualification on the student's behalf. Certificates won't be issued until the qualification is accepted.

Receiving the certificate

  • Providing the qualification has been accepted as above, it will then be possible to send a copy of the Student's Academic Summary, this can be used as official confirmation of the qualification prior to receiving the certificate. Please contact your regional SiSE support team to request this,.
  • The certificate is produced by the University on watermarked stationery, with the University crest and hologram, it also contains the OU seal. It's sent out by the Qualifications Centre by post to the address on our records. Students should expect to receive their certificate within 8 to 12 weeks from the date of acceptance.

About the ceremony

  • OU ceremonies are prestigious occasions where graduates, the education department and other prison staff can come together, along with families and friends to celebrate academic achievement and personal success.
  • If you would like to hold a degree ceremony in your prison for a graduate please contact your regional SiSE support team to arrange this.

I feel this degree holds more than just academic value. More importantly it has been a tool in my pursuit in achieving a greater awareness so that I can challenge my ignorance and avoid making the same mistakes of the past. Finally, what does make this moment more fulfilling is being able to share this with my peers and to feel the encouraging love and pride from my loved ones.
