Mahfuzur Khokan wins best trainee poster award

PhD student Mahfuzur Khokan was awarded the best trainee poster award at the European Mathematical Genetics Meeting 2022, held at the University of Cambridge.

His poster was about Improving Power by Conditioning in Genetic Association Studies (GWAS). Mahfuz works with his supervisor Kaustubh Adhikari in statistical genetics. For this research, he was able to show theoretically and with real data that the statistical procedure of conditioning, when used with known genes with major effects, can improve power in genetic association studies, and lead to identification of new genes.
