The Philosophy discipline welcomes applications for graduate work on aesthetics. The Open University has a long tradition of research in this area, and is the UK home of The British Journal of Aesthetics (one of the two major international journals in the field). Applications in any area of aesthetics will be considered, although at the moment we are particularly interested in: the aesthetic and epistemic value of visual art (e.g., photography); and the nature of aesthetic judgment and value.

Research and research students are at the heart of the discipline. In joining us, you would join a lively and friendly graduate community. The discipline hosts papers by visiting speakers throughout the year, and an annual graduate conference at which students give papers on their work in progress.

Entry requirements

Minimum 2:1 undergraduate degree (or equivalent).  Most successful applicants to the research degree programme have an MA in Philosophy (or equivalent). If you are not a UK citizen, you may need to prove your knowledge of English.
