Accessibility Statement for Engineering: frameworks, analysis, production (T193)

Mode of study

Much of this module’s study materials are online. Online materials are composed of pages of text with images, audio/video clips of 1-9 minutes long (all with transcripts), diagrams, interactive media, animations, multiple choice self-assessed quizzes. Online materials also include links to external resources, online forums and online tutorial rooms. The module also includes an online Learning Log for recording reflections on your learning. Printed materials are provided for some of the module content.

Tuition strategy

This module provides face-to-face and online tutorials. Each face-to-face learning event offers an online alternative. Although not compulsory, attendance at tutorials will help you consolidate your learning.

Working with others

You may be required to work with other students. This includes looking at, and commenting on, others’ work, reflecting on others’ comments on your work, taking part in discussions and sharing data from experiments.

Practical work

Online practical work forms a required component of assessment. This module extends your experience of the use of an online engineering studio.

Mathematical and scientific expressions and notations

Mathematical and scientific symbols and expressions are used throughout the module and you will be required to use such notation within assessment.

Diagrams and other visual content

The study materials contain a considerable number of diagrams, graphs and photographs. Reading, interpreting and producing examples of these is an important part of the study of this module and may be assessed. Figure descriptions are provided for all figures.

Finding information

You may be required to search for, and make use of, third-party material online and this may be assessed. Alternatives for required/assessed research material can be provided to enable you to meet the learning outcomes of the module.

Specialist reading material

In this module you will be working with specialist reading material such as mathematical notation. These are delivered online and in printed form. If you have any concerns about this aspect of the module, please contact us for further advice.

Assessment

This module has two Tutor-Marked Assignments (TMAs), which must be submitted online via the OU electronic TMA system and three interactive Computer-Marked Assignments (iCMAs) which are completed online and an End of Module Assessment (EMA).

Feedback

You will receive feedback from your tutor on your submitted Tutor-Marked Assignments (TMAs). This will help you to reflect on your TMA performance. You should refer to it to help you prepare for your next assignment.

Schedule

All University modules are structured according to a set timetable and you will need time-management skills to keep your studies on track. You will be supported in developing these skills. Specialist software

This module uses specialist symbols that are not covered by standard accessibility tools. The module materials and assessment ask you to use a specialist software ‒ maths editor ‒ and may not be fully accessible as a result. On the T193 web pages:

  • equations are displayed as scalable images (so you can zoom via your browser's usual way of increasing zoom level; you should inherit font/background changes that you may have already set)
  • equations have an automatically generated English-language ('plain text') description that screen readers will read out (this is also available by clicking on an equation itself)
  • the MathML code of an equation is available by clicking on an equation.
