Accessibility Statement for French studies 2: language and culture of the French-speaking world (L222)

Mode of study

All of this module’s study materials are online. Online materials are composed of pages of text with images; interactive activities; audio/video clips (with transcripts, subtitles and descriptions where possible). Online materials also include links to external resources, online forums and online tutorial rooms. We provide printed materials are provided for some module content.

Tuition strategy

This module provides a range of learning events, online tutorials and face-to-face tutorials. Each face-to-face learning event offers an online (or other) alternative. Although not compulsory, tutorials will help you consolidate your learning.

Working with others

You’ll be required to work with other students, but this is not assessed. This includes looking at, and commenting on, others’ work; reflecting on others’ comments on your work; and /or working together with fellow learners on a task; and taking part in forum discussions.

Residential school

This module includes a compulsory residential school for which there is also an online alternative.

The residential school takes place in France in February–March and lasts one week. On most days the programme runs from approximately 09:00 until 19:00, with breaks between activities. There are some visits in the afternoons, for which we can arrange suitable transport.

There’s a dedicated member of staff to support students with additional requirements during the week in France. Some classrooms at the site have better accessibility than others so we take the needs of students with limited mobility into account as much as possible when allocating rooms.

Diagrams and other visual content

The study materials contain some diagrams. Interpreting these is an important part of the study of this module. We provide descriptions for all essential figures.

Finding information

You could be required to search for, and make use of, third party material online. We can provide alternatives for required research material to enable you to meet the learning outcomes of the module.

This module has activities where you search online for newspapers, radio stations and TV programmes in French.

Assessment

This module has Tutor-Marked Assignments (TMAs) submitted online via the OU electronic TMA system and an end-of-module assessment submitted online.

Feedback

You’ll receive feedback from your tutor on your submitted Tutor-Marked Assignments (TMAs). This will help you to reflect on your TMA performance. You should refer to it to help you prepare for your next assignment.

Schedule

We structure all University modules to a set timetable and you’ll need time-management skills to keep your studies on track. We’ll support you in developing these skills.
