Finding information

You will be required to search for, and make use of, third-party material online.

The course seeks to develop digital literacy skills and the competences required in the Office of the Immigration Services Commissioner (IOSC) level 1 syllabus. This syllabus is externally set by the authority which regulates the provisions of immigration advice, guidance, and services.

Specialist reading material

In this course, you'll be working with legal materials which can be wordy and complex. Activities and explanatory materials exploring legal terminology, legal convention, the use and application of the Immigration Rules form part of the learning journey and assist you in developing your familiarity with wordy and complex materials and in applying these to factual scenarios. Throughout the course you are referred to a Course Reader. As part of your studies, you are asked to take notes on the reader.

The resource book for level 1 exams provided by the Office of the Immigration Services Commissioner (OISC) on the GOV.UK website is not in an accessible format for users of assistive technology, but an accessible format can be requested from OISC.

Assessment

There is no formal assessment on the course. You are encouraged to self-assess your own progress through unit activities and consolidation exercises.

There is no schedule so you can study the units at your own pace. This also enables students intending to apply to OISC to fit their studies around the OISC examination schedule. It has a final completion date. When enrolling, you will be advised of the time in which you must complete the course. This will be a minimum of six months.

Conditions of professional practice
