Accessibility Statement for Contemporary social work practice (K246)

Mode of study

This practice-based module has an extensive placement and four blocks of study supported by online materials and online discussions with your tutor and other students. Most of this module’s study materials are online and are composed of pages of text with images, audio/video clips of up to 10 minutes long (all with transcripts), diagrams, interactive media, animations and multiple choice self-assessed quizzes. Online materials also include links to external resources, online forums and online tutorial rooms.

Tuition strategy

This module provides a series of practice skills workshops: an introductory workshop which is held online and six compulsory practice skills workshops (four face-to-face and otwo online). These workshops form part of the practice skills requirements for the social work requirements in each nation. The workshops will help you consolidate your learning and gain support from your tutor and other students.

Working with others

You’ll be required to work with other students. This includes looking at, and commenting on, others’ work, reflecting on others' comments on your work, and/or working together with fellow learners on a project or task.

Practical work

A key part of this module is an extensive social work placement which is assessed. You should consult your sponsor if you consider you might need reasonable adjustments made in your practice environment. Discuss and record this in your Practice Learning Agreement meeting. The practice skills workshops includes some collaborative group work.

Diagrams and other visual content

The study materials contain some diagrams and photographs. Reading, interpreting and producing examples of these is an important part of the study of this module and is assessed. Figure descriptions are provided for all figures.

Finding information

You may be required to search for, and make use of, third party material online and this is assessed. Alternatives for required research material can be provided to enable you to meet the Learning Outcomes of the module.

Assessment

This module has Tutor-Marked Assignments (TMAs) and an End-of-Module Assessment. The Practice Assessment Report must be submitted in hard copy.

You’ll receive feedback from your tutor on your submitted tutor-marked assignments (TMAs). This will help you to reflect on your TMA performance. You should refer to it to help you prepare for your next assignment.
