How to apply for your loan

Once you are registered on your chosen qualification, follow our step-by-step guide to get your loan in place before the enrolment deadline:

Enrol on your first module

  • Visit StudentHome to enrol on your first module(s).
  • Choose ‘Part-Time Tuition Fee Loan’ as your preferred payment option.

Register with Student Finance England (SFE)

  • Register with SFE online, as soon as possible.
  • They’ll give you a Customer Reference Number (CRN) which you’ll need during your OU registration.

Start the loan application process

  • Take care to apply for the right year of loan support. This depends on the start date of your qualification. If you are unsure, log on to your StudentHome account to check the details.
  • StudentHome contains useful information on completing your application.

Complete your OU enrolment

  • Visit StudentHome to give us your SFE CRN.
  • When you give us your CRN, you are agreeing to pay your fees by loan, and you will be registered on your course subject to your loan being fully approved.
