Being an OU research student

Around 1000 students are registered for OU research degrees, supported on campus, online and through our global network of Affiliated Research Centres.

In the Postgraduate Research Experience Survey (PRES) 2019, we came 5th out of 103 institutions for student satisfaction.

The Open University is a world leader in its research and student support. We currently have around 1000 students on research degrees on campus, online and through our global network of Affiliated Research Centres.

As an OU research student, you’ll enjoy high-quality academic and pastoral support, overseen by The Open University Graduate School. You’ll also have access to excellent research facilities and a thriving research environment. Our Milton Keynes campus also boasts plenty of green spaces and the opportunity to engage in a wide variety of clubs and sports.

Depending on the type of degree you’re undertaking, you’ll be supported in a number of ways, including seminars, supervisory sessions and a doctoral training programme.
